The featured ‘phone camera snapshot shows a view of the recent Palms Casino make-over which (to my knowledge) has never before been seen in the mainstream press. That’s understandable. It would send the wrong message in the Travel Section. Every vacation resort destination in the world has its off-the-beaten path areas where travelers should not go. This graffiti wall feature at the Palms capitalizes on such travel advisories. It’s a provocation: not for the faint of heart. I would give anything to have been a fly on the wall of the Station Casinos boardroom when the concept was debated. Certainly doubts were voiced. The winning argument must have gone something like –if you don’t break the rules it’s not worth doing. I agree. Conservative play isn’t play. Notice the senior playing a slot machine in the photo. Notice he is not at a Bingo hall. Seniors love Bingo, but Bingo brings the least revenue of any game in Las Vegas. Seniors’ next favorite game is penny slots. Penny slots are the third largest source of revenue after Baccarat and Black Jack, making more for the house than sports books, for example. The photo was taken in the middle of the day, on a weekday, when only seniors can spin the reels all day long. We may imagine the senior in the picture joining his friends at the Bingo hall later that night, but during the day, he feels like a Bronx Bomber.
